Community Fair

Once again the SmokeFree WA Whitford Lions Community Fair 2010 was a great success.  Numbers were down on last year because of the competition from mamy other Fairs running at the same time.  We still had nearly 50 stallholders and wonderful entertainers throughout the day.

To view pictures of the day click on the Pictures tab on the left menu.

The fifth annual primary schools art competition was also run at the same time.Just over 500 entries were received, which makes 2257 enteres over the 5 years.  The Lions Club of Whitford has donated to primary schools $4500 over the same period and the award winners have received gift vouchers and painting sets to a total value of $2400.  Even more important is the fact that so many primary students have taken the time, effort and flair to put their ideas on paper.  All are winners in our minds!!

Mayor Troy Pickard announced the award winners and presented to them their certificates and prizes.  He spoke to all the children and their parents and wondered where all this flair for art came from.  When he asked them if they had enjoyed their painting, the reply of “yes” raised the roof of the pavilion.

The Lions Club would like to acknowledge the encouragement of the City of Joondalup for the competition, as well as Jackson’s Drawing Supplies for their advice on the prizes.

Towards the end of November we will start with our 6th art competiton by advising all the primary school in our area of the chosen subjects and the closing dates.
