Club
The Charter of the Lions Club of Whitford was signed at the Headquarters of Lions Clubs International in Chicago on 21 November 1979 . The Club has served the suburbs of Kallaroo, Craigie, Hillarys and Padbury (designated boundaries – Mullaloo and Craigie Drive, the Mitchell Freeway and Hepburn Avenue) for 25 enjoyable and rewarding years.
We are a committed group of local people who come from all walks of life. We enjoy helping others whilst still having a good time. Members give priority to their family, their business and Lions projects, in that order – yet we still find time for regular social activities which form an integral part of the Club.
Our meetings are held every 2nd and 4th Monday at the Whitford Tavern, corner of Whitford and Marmion Avenues. Typically, our meetings last around 2 hours, starting at 7pm with fellowship, a meal, business sessions and a guest speaker.
Fundraising centres around such projects as:-
- Bingo every Friday night;
- Swapmeet every Sunday;
- Sales of Lion’s Mints and Christmas Cakes;
- Hire of our purpose built BBQ;
The Club assists many organisations and individuals including Princess Margaret Hospital, the Royal Flying Doctor Service and local schools to name but a few. Not only do we assist out in the local community, our help stretches right around the world:
- Provide on-going support for two children through World Vision
- Provided support to East Timor families
- Supported kindergarten children in the small Pacific Island of Tuvalu
- Worked closely with the Lions Club of Phuket Pearl, Thailand, to help commission
- facilities to bring clean drinking water to the island’s school children.
We also support the following Lions Foundations:
- Lions Save Sight
- Lions Eye Institute
- Lions Help to Hear
- Lions Drug Awareness
- Lions Cancer Institute
In recent years, we have regularly raised in excess of $90,000 per annum from the community and then distributed that money back to a variety of worthy causes and plans are in place to ensure the same level of commitment is provided in 2007/2008.
